May 10: Monthly Club Meeting
Our club's next monthly club meeting will take place on Zoom only on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 9-11am.
Zoom doors open at 9am. From 9 to 9:30am, join us in open conversation as we greet those who are arriving and catch up with each other. This a great time to ask for help on your radio projects and get to know your fellow community members before the official meeting begins. Those who have something to share are invited to participate in our Show and Tell time. Come as you are; all are welcome!
The Official Meeting begins at 9:30am.
- Our Announcements segment comes first. We'll start with brief reports on our club & net operations, the repeaters, and highlight upcoming events.
- Our Featured Presentation, on Common Mode Current Chokes will follow at 10AM. See below for more details.
Featured Presentation: Common Mode Current Chokes, by Mark Smith, N6MTS
Common Mode Current Chokes: What are they? Why do we need them? What does "Common Mode Current" mean anyway? Let's figure all that out.
Mark Smith, aka Smitty, N6MTS, has been a ham radio operator since 1992. While his 30 year career was in IT (networks, systems, and information security), his hobbies have always included electronics and ham radio. He's one of the hosts on the hit podcast The Ham Radio Workbench.
In late 2021, he decided that starting an electronics company during a global semiconductor shortage was less stressful than the last few years in InfoSec during COVID. So he left IT and in early 2022 started Halibut Electronics to make hardware and software for the Amateur Radio community.
