March 15: Monthly Club Meeting on Zoom: Decibels
Our club's next monthly club meeting will take place on Zoom only on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 9-11am.
Zoom doors open at 9am. From 9 to 9:30am, join us in open conversation as we greet those who are arriving and catch up with each other. This a great time to ask for help on your radio projects and get to know your fellow community members before the official meeting begins. Come as you are; all are welcome!
The Official Meeting begins at 9:30am.
- Our Announcements segment comes first. We'll start with brief reports on our club & net operations, the repeaters, and highlight upcoming events.
- Our Featured Presentation will follow. This month, we are excited to have our very own Karl Moellmer, W7BVP, present on decibels. Please see below for more details.
Understanding Decibels with W7BVP
Karl W7BVP shares with us: "It was in a class at the Naval Postgraduate School (Monterey) when the professor made a reference to decibels. I asked, “Do you mean power dB, volts dB or current dB?” His response: “You don’t understand decibels. Come to my office after class.” Stay tuned for what I learned that afternoon."
About Our Presenter:
In the late 1940s, Karl's father once ran 10 watts AM mobile on his station in Idaho and made contact with a station in New York. The experience of watching his father talk with another operator over 2,000 miles away made quite an impression on Karl, who never forgot it. In 1964, Karl obtained his Conditional license in Idaho while in nuclear power training, and his Advanced license in 1969 in Honolulu while serving on his second submarine. His third boat was also home-ported in Hawaii. After his service in the Navy, Karl held several jobs on the Eastside. He retired in 1999.
