January 11: Monthly Club Meeting
Our club's next monthly club meeting will take place on Zoom only on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 9-11am.
Zoom doors open at 9am. From 9 to 9:30am, join us in open conversation as we greet those who are arriving and catch up with each other. This a great time to ask for help on your radio projects and get to know your fellow community members before the official meeting begins. Come as you are; all are welcome!
The Official Meeting begins at 9:30am.
- Our Announcements segment comes first. We'll start with brief reports on our club & net operations, the repeaters, and highlight upcoming events.
- Show and Tell comes next. This month, Larry W7DGP will show us how to use tool batteries to power a 50watt SSB radio for half the cost of most available lithium battery packs. The necessary components will be described and sources named. He'll conclude with an on-the-air live demo using an IC-7000 set to 50 watts.
- Our Featured Presentation will follow. This month, we are fortunate to have Mark Wohlschlegel, WC3W, present on the DX Marathon program. Please see below for details.

This Month's Featured Presentation: DX Marathon by Mark Wohlschlegel, WC3W.
The DX Marathon Program is the fastest growing DX Program in our hobby today. On January 11th, we are pleased to have Mark Wohlschlegel, WC3W present on the program to our club via Zoom. He will explain the basics of the program, how simple it is to participate, and why every operator who enjoys working DX should be in the program. The DX Marathon Program has grown by double digits over the past two years, +46% in 2022 and +50% in 2023! Besides the basics, Mark will discuss some of the 2023 results participants had during this exciting propagation Cycle 25 has brought to all DXers. The presentation will be approximately 30 minutes with Q & As to follow. About Mark: Mark, WC3W, has been a ham radio operator for 62 years. He currently resides in South Florida and operates a world-class remote station there. He has been the program administrator for the DX Marathon Program going on 3 years and has enjoyed the task of stimulate growth making the program the fastest growing DX program in our hobby. Some of his other interests include being a commercial pilot, riding BMW motorcycles both in the US and in the Alps, and he is a keyboard player playing in a number of bands in South Florida. He enjoys golf as well.
